Moving forward in a fragmented landscape
Open Banking is undeniably a trend, though it is still largely driven by legislation. Many of us think it is a good thing, or pretend to do so. But what does it really mean? And what will it’s effect be on the financial ecosystem?
In this track session we define precisely what Open Banking is and discuss it’s relation to Open APIs in general and PSD2 in particular. We’ll discuss the most likely scenario’s that will unfold once Open Banking becomes commonplace: the emergence of banking platforms with a singular focus on for instance lending, mortgages or authentication services competing for clients with other platforms from Fintechs and other banks. Thus a fragmented landscape, where it is much more likely that clients have a lending-agreement with one bank and a mortgage at another and consume a third service from a Fintech…
And if the landscape becomes so fragmented, what must banks do to make their platforms stand out? What will happen to shared infrastructure? Will payment platforms and consumer or merchant on-boarding fulfil a central role?
