EPS Speaker Spotlight
A brief interview teaser with David Birch – Consult Hyperion, ahead of his “5 Live – 5 things the industry should be focusing on in the year ahead” keynote, one of the EPS 2019 ‘can’t miss’ sessions next week.
Mark your calendars: April 26th at 1.45 PM in The Hague!
During your keynote presentation, you will be focusing on …
The Consult Hyperion “live five” key technologies for 2019 that we think our customers should be spending more time thinking about, planning for and use to deliver products and services in the electronic transactions space.
The leading area for digital payments in Europe is …
Scandinavia – look at what’s going on with Swish, BankID, Klarna, iZettle (PayPal) and so on!
The most recent fintech initiative you’ve noticed that can potentially disrupt the industry is…
I’m very interested in the growth of schemes such as Afterpay.
What will happen to cash? Or credit cards?
Cash will vanish from polite society. We urgently need national strategies to manage the transition to cashlessness. Cards will continue to migrate into phones, I don’t think it’s very controversial to say this, and we will begin to see the separation of credit from payments.
Is financial inclusion complementary to fintech capabilities or vice versa?
I think financial inclusion should be part of the overall regulatory framework for financial institutions, but it’s not all about money. A precursor is social inclusion, which is all about identity.
Has PSD2 reached its goals?
If the goals were to replace a banking oligarchy with a tech oligarchy, then I would say that we are well on the way.
Educating consumers on PSD2 implications is a responsibility that should rest with…
Educating consumers is possible and it is the responsibility of the industry to build safe infrastructure. You don’t educate consumers about aircraft safety, consumers fly in the knowledge that the government forces airlines to build safe planes*
